The Stepanek Family
"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." – Joshua 24:15
This family has walked through more trials in the past two years than many face in a lifetime. They don’t claim to have all the answers, but they believe in the power of prayer, community, and God's mercy.
Alex
He was 33 when he was diagnosed. At an age when most young dads are coaching tee-ball, Alex found himself in surgery rooms and chemo chairs, praying for time.
Despite the weight of his diagnosis, Alex has never stopped learning, hoping, or believing. He’s pursued every treatment with courage and determination, including a promising new therapy currently offered in Mexico. Alongside the medicine, he’s embraced a deeper spiritual healing. In the last year, Alex returned fully to his Catholic faith. His pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Bosnia, a place of reported Marian apparitions and miracles, was transformative. It’s given him peace, even in the uncertainty.
Alex’s fight isn’t just about survival. It’s about staying here for his children, guiding them with faith, and trusting that God’s plan, even if mysterious, is never absent of love.
Allyson
Allyson was seven months pregnant when her husband received the devastating news. In an instant, the joy of preparing for their son turned into the heaviness of navigating hospitals, scans, and decisions no young family should have to make. Still, Allyson remained steady.
She works full-time at a local hospital while caring for her children and supporting Alex. Her quiet strength, deep patience, and ability to stay calm under pressure are nothing short of God-given. Her love is visible in the small moments, always leading with peace instead of panic.
Olivia
At just 7 years old, Olivia is mature, intelligent, and full of heart. She just finished first grade at St. Pius/St. Leo in Omaha, and her teachers often note how bright and thoughtful she is. Olivia has a natural love for learning, but also for faith. She enjoys going to Mass with her family and asks deep questions that reflect a mind that’s wise beyond its years.
She loves fishing with her dad at Woodcliff Lake. She’s a pro with a fishing pole, but she’ll leave the fish-removal to someone else. What’s most special about Olivia is the way she cares for her younger brother, Silas. She watches over him with a big heart, showing the kind of love that can only be described as a gift.
Silas
Silas turned two in March, and his presence is pure joy. He is playful, clever, and full of wonder. He loves Buzz Lightyear and Lightning McQueen, bananas and ice cream. He calls Olivia “sissy” and looks up to her in every way. Their bond is beautiful and already rooted in love and laughter. Though he’s too young to understand what’s happening, Silas lifts everyone’s spirits. He is a little light God placed in this family at exactly the right time.
